Green Maxi + Headwrap

“Summer time and the living is easy…” Ella Fitzgerald had it right with this classic opening verse. Summer is in full swing right now and Philly is in the midst of our third heatwave. You already know I have wigs on deck until summer leaves. I’m not a summer baby at all. I prefer the fall when I’m not sweating my life away! To combat the humidity I’ve been adding more headwraps and turbans to my every day ensembles. Today’s look features this cotton green maxi dress and colorful headwrap.

A while back I ordered quite a few dresses from Boohoo. Cotton, sleeveless, brightly colored, and down to the floor – these dresses were perfect for those smoldering summer days when you just need to be comfy. I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived and were super soft and fit like a glove. However, this was two years ago. Before my weight gain and my myomectomy surgery (I’ll go into more detail about this in a future post). I’ve been apprehensive about wearing them now.

In recent weeks I’ve become more comfortable with where I am physically, so the maxi dresses have come out of retirement. Now I will be needing some spanx of course but I’m no longer apprehensive about wearing them. I grabbed this one for a recent photoshoot. Looking at the finished work, biker shorts were not the best choice underneath. A body shaper would’ve been best, but such is life. I’m allowed to make fashion mistakes.

The printed headwrap is actually apart of a skirt set. It can be worn as a bandeau top as well. I love garments that have multiple use, so this is right up my alley. I shot six looks in one day in 90+ degree weather. This was one of them and wearing a headwrap was a great decision lol. I finished the look with a small bucket bag and black wedges. Silver accessories make the colors pop and an orange lip adds some fun. I’m all about keeping cool in these high temps. What do you wear during a Heatwave? Let me know in the comments below!

Green Mesh + Polka Dots

The weekend is here beautiful people, how was your week? I had some unexpected challenges this week but I haven’t let them steal my joy and I hope you can say the same. Yesterday was officially the first day of Fall (or Autumn if you reside outside of North America) and I will be the first to tell you that I am so excited!!

This is my favorite season and I am ready like Freddy boo.I have the weekend ahead to reorganize my clothes as these temperatures slowly drop from eighties to low seventies here in Philly.

Until then, I will be great in a pretty dress like this little number I have on today. I found this mesh polka dot dress on http://www.asos.com a while back and immediately fell in love. This shade of green is amazing and the large dots are so playfull! The a-line cut has a full skirt which is so flirty and feminine.

Just the pick me up I need to get through a Friday night at work. I’ve added a pink necklace for a pop of color and stayed monochrome with sparkly green pumps for added flare. What a great way to start the weekend!

Vintage Paisley Dress

So listen, I have a confession to make. I’ve basically been in my feelings since this time last week because both of my younger siblings graduate this month. My sister is leaving undergrad with a degree in graphic design and my brother is headed to college for computer engineering.

I am both overwhelmed and overjoyed. I’ll never admit this to my mother but, I too have moments where I find myself tearfully replaying all of their milestones in my head. I feel so old staring at their yearbook pictures. My babies are all grown up and there’s no stopping them! I wonder what actual parenthood must feel like…

Okay, enough talk about graduations and nostalgia, how about we shift to fashion instead? As you know by now, I love a good trip to the thrift store or consignment shop. One such trip a few years ago introduced me to today’s featured frock, this fabulous silk dress.

A vibrant grass green color with multi colored paisley and gold threading throughout, I couldn’t pass up this dress. It was originally two sizes too big, but some alterations and a second thrifting trip to buy shoes proved to be all I needed. By adding a few go to accessories I am totally ready to enjoy some sun in the city. Here’s to finding hidden treasures!
