60’s Princess Dress

The fashion lover in me is always interested in see what was fashionable to previous generations. As a millennial with baby boomer parents searching through old family photos isn’t just to take a trip down memory lane. I do it to also get some style inspiration. Recently I came across a few pictures that reminded me of an old dress I haven’t worn in years. It’s this yellow floral 60’s princess dress.

I purchased the dress years ago at H&M. At the time hippie chic was popular. Peasant tops, mod dresses, and embroidery were in every store. I came across this groovy dress and was immediately excited. The floral pattern is totally reminiscent of the 60’s. A dress Daphne from Scooby Doo might have worn on a date with Fred.

What sold me on the dress completely was the bottom half. The princess ruffles are exaggerated by the use of structured tulle and darting. I never have to worry about the dress losing it’s shape. The stretch spandex material is extremely comfortable. Not to mention that’s the only reason I can fit this dress after all these years. It’s one of few dresses I own that allow me to twirl like a ballerina. Perdect with flats during the day or sandals at night.

Cloche Hat + Paisley Skirt

Happy Belated Thanksgiving everyone! I pray you and your families are well and that you’re enjoying this holiday season. This is my first post in two weeks and beleive me that time away was much needed mentally and physically. I started my birthday (11/18) with prayer and quality time with babe. Then chopped off my hair (new pics soon to come) before spending the weekend in the DMV.

I got to visit one of my dearest friends (s/o to Dawn, xo) and thouroughly enjoyed myself the entire time. Thanksgiving was wonderful as I got to see some family I hadn’t seen in a while. This past weekend has presented some painful challenges for my family, but I expect to be telling you all my victorious testimony soon!

In today’s fashion news, the turtlenecks and corduroy pants are in full effect and I’ve pulled out my boots and tights for daily wear. Winter weather also means it’s time for all those awesome winter accessories like hats, scarves, and gloves. Today’s look features one of my favorite winter pieces. I found this hunter green cloche hat at a local high end vintage shop, Cultured Couture.

It’s the perfect accessory to match this paisley maxi skirt which was also a thrifted purchase. I decided to let the skirt be the focus and added basic turtleneck with gold jewelry. Next, I added tights, patent heels, and a scarf to keep me warm. Fully comfortable and fully vintage, this look is perfect to head back to work. It’s good to be back loves, XO!

Little Red Dress

At some point within the last two years I realized there was an absence of red clothing in my wardrobe. Lots of black, neutrals, brights, and even white – but no red. For whatever reason I stayed away from red and hot pink almost religiously. These colors seemed taboo…off limits for me. As if wearing those hues was “doing too much”.

I’d admired how these colors looked on other women of color but had never considered trying them myself. To get over my hang ups I decided to consciously begin adding shades of red and pink into my wardrobe. At first through accessories and then clothing. This red fit and flare dress was one of my first purchases.

The soft fabric is lightweight and breathable. The fit manages to be relaxed without being sloppy, while the retro pleats and billow sleeves give a feminine touch. To top it off the pop of peach color at the hem is unexpected and fun! Who knew red could be this dreamy?
